“In many places, like Namibia, a lot of students struggle in school. In fact, over the past three years, 80% of students couldn’t get into colleges or universities because of their grades. One big reason is that schools don’t have enough resources, and teachers are overwhelmed.”
These are the words of Vitalis Haupindi and Lotto Nanghonda Jr., the creators of YyeniChat, which was created as a solution to a global problem. This is an artificial intelligence (AI) chatbot on which a human teacher prepares lessons, and an AI teacher delivers the lesson to each learner in a personalized way.
With both Vitalis and Lotto devoted to seeing YyeniChat grow, the company has shown exponential growth and success in less than a year. This is made clear through their winning streak of multiple awards and building a network of individuals who helped refine the face of YyeniChat.
YyeniChat wins Tech4Good Global competition
Most recently, the team took a big win. YyeniChat was a participant in the Tech4Good competition hosted by Hawaii. The international competition was no hurdle for Vitalis and Lotto, as they came first and won gold.
“As one of the top 10 finalists, proudly representing Namibia as one of the only two African teams, we competed against top projects from the UAE, Brazil, Algeria, Uzbekistan, Singapore, Germany, Colombia, Italy, and Chile.
Through intensive practice sessions and constructive feedback, we fine-tuned our pitch to the highest level. This strategic shift and dedication led us to clinch the Gold Award, bringing home the first prize,” the winners said.
“As winners of the Tech4Good Global competition, our incredible journey continued with a fully sponsored trip by Huawei to Barcelona for the MWC24, one of the largest, if not the biggest, ICT events in the world, alongside fellow Seeds for the Future alumni,” the creators said.
YyeniChat wins Hackathon Prize
“Out of 866 teams across Africa, we soared through workshops, quarterfinals, and semifinals to make it to the top 9 finalists,” they said.
Proudly representing Namibian tech excellence in Ethiopia from November 11–13, 2023, they grabbed three prestigious awards: winning silver for overall A2SV hackathon winner, along with accolades for Most Potential for Positive Change and Cross Domain Collaboration Awards.
Reaching out to Schools
In September 2023, YyeniChat conducted their first-ever school testing of Yyeni AI at Suiderlig High School in Keetmanshoop. The testing spanned two days and encompassed students from grades 10 to 12.
