I have been feeling and seeing a great revival in the world. Many young people are giving their lives to Christ and it has been such a sight to see. Especially on YouTube, a lot of content creators and celebrities are declaring Jesus Christ as their Lord and Saviour and this is a confirmation of what God says about His spirit being poured out onto the nation.
And afterward, I will pour out my Spirit on all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy, your old men will dream dreams, your young men will see visions. Even on my servants, both men and women, I will pour out my Spirit in those days.
Joel 2:28
Giving your life to Christ is a big yet fulfilling decision to make. It involves accepting Jesus as your Lord and Saviour and being committed to follow His teachings. Here are some steps to help you with your decision.
1. Recognize Your Need for Salvation
I am assuming that going through life without Christ has been a challenge. Or you probably felt a need for something to fulfil you. And choosing to surrender to Christ, I can say, is one of the best decisions you could ever make for yourself. The first step to making that decision is to understand that we are all sinners and have fallen short of God’s glory. Recognizing this need for salvation is the first step.
- Romans 3:23: “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.”
- Romans 6:23: “For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
2. Believe in Jesus Christ
The next step is to believe in Jesus Christ. Believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God, who died for your sins and rose again to give you eternal life.
- John 3:16: “For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life.”
- Romans 10:9: “If you declare with your mouth, ‘Jesus is Lord,’ and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.”
Just a side note: God’s grace is not a license to sin. Yes, Jesus died for your sins, and you are forgiven; however, do not take His grace for granted. Another note is that we will continue to sin, daily, but this is where step 3 comes in.
3. Confess and Repent of Your Sins
Repentance must become part of your daily habit. Confession and repentance involve admitting your sins and turning away from them. But if there are sins we continue to struggle with, fasting is a way to help.
- 1 John 1:9: “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.”
- Acts 3:19: “Repent, then, and turn to God, so that your sins may be wiped out, that times of refreshing may come from the Lord.”
4. Accept Jesus as Your Lord and Savior
This step is about making a personal commitment to follow Jesus and allowing Him to lead your life. You may start evaluating your life and relationships. This is where the Holy Spirit thrives! You start noticing toxic habits, wanting to let go of your ‘old self’ and living a life that glorifies God.
- John 14:6: “Jesus answered, ‘I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.'”
- Acts 16:31: “They replied, ‘Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved—you and your household.'”
5. Join a Christian Community and Get Baptized
Baptism is a public declaration of your faith in Jesus. It symbolizes the washing away of sin and the start of a new life.
- Acts 2:38: “Peter replied, ‘Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.'”
Being part of a church or Christian community is important for growth, encouragement, and accountability. Walking with Christ is not a journey you take on your own.
- Hebrews 10:24-25: “And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing but encouraging one another.”
- Acts 2:42: “They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread, and to prayer.”
I hope these steps have helped your decision to give your life to Christ. I am so proud of you, and remember, heaven is rejoicing!
