Namibia welcomes its fourth president, His Excellency President Dr. Nangolo Mbumba, and Commander-in-Chief of the Namibian Defence Force.
Namibia witnessed a smooth transition of leadership today, as His Excellency President Dr. Nangolo Mbumba assumed the presidency following the unfortunate passing of President Hage Geingob on Sunday at 00h04 at Lady Pohamba Hospital in the capital.
The ceremony took place this afternoon, with Chief Justice His Lordship Peter Shivute officiating the swearing-in.
President Mbumba, formerly the Vice President since 2018, promptly announced Honourable Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah as the new Vice President. Honourable Nandi-Ndaitwah, who has held the position of Deputy Prime Minister since 21 March 2015, now assumes the role of Vice President.
This transition adheres to the constitutional provisions outlined in Article 29 read with Article 34. Namibia’s democratic process has been exemplified by the swift and peaceful handover of responsibilities during this time of crisis.
Today’s events underscore the stability and functionality of Namibia’s democratic systems and policies. The peaceful transfer of power reflects the country’s commitment to a well-structured democratic process.
As we observe this transition, it is noteworthy that Namibia continues to uphold its democratic principles with efficiency and orderliness.
