Your bedroom should be a safe haven, and your recharge station. So why not make it more peaceful by adding one or two plants?

Not only do they add a bright energy to the space, plants are natural air purifiers and are known to reduce stress levels and boost moods amongst other things.

If you are looking to add some greenery to your space, with some assistance from Namibia’s own plant guru Mini Gardens, we have compiled a list of the best five plants to consider.


1. Aloe Vera

Aloe plants provide a pretty, pop of green and an unmatched, calming quality to one’s home.  The aloe plant is a favorite because it resonates with healing energy because it scrubs the air clean of toxins (formaldehyde, benzene and carbon monoxide), as well as being antibacterial and an antioxidant. It’s healing properties extend to direct application for soothing burns and improving skin tone.

2. Snake Plant

Also known as Mother-In-Law’s tongue, this insanely low-maintenance plant is an optimal choice for the bedroom because not only does it claim a spot on NASA’s list, but it also is one of few houseplants that converts carbon dioxide into oxygen at night (something most houseplants only do during the day).

3. Golden Pothos “Money Plant”

The trailing pothos plant is effective at filtering out formaldehyde, carbon monoxide, and benzene and is extremely easy to care for and grow. It has been nicknamed ‘the cubicle plant’ because of how tolerant it is. In addition to helping attract wealth and prosperous energy, they’re supposed to help lower anxiety and promote healthier sleep.

4. Ficus

Like many other rubber plants it easy to take care of and do very well, even if neglected for a few days.  Ficus plants are favoured  for air-purifying qualities that are said to encourage enlightenment. There are several varieties of ficus plants, all of which serve a space by filtering toxins from the air and offering an energizing boost from their vibrant foliage.

5. Fiddle Leaf Fig

Last but certainly not least! The Fiddle leaf fig adds a bold and bright statement to your space. Popular for their big bold leaves that contrast modern interior design, these are easy to maintain and grow quite quickly. Ficus plants are favoured  for air-purifying qualities that are said to encourage enlightenment. There are several varieties of ficus plants, all of which serve a space by filtering toxins from the air and offering an energizing boost from their vibrant foliage.

The best bedroom plant for you will depend on what you’re looking for in a plant. If you’re looking for a plant that filters indoor air even at night, consider adding the Snake plant or Aloe Vera plant to your bedroom.
